Build Your Wild Self

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

Here are some of the crazy examples of our wild selves.

Reminder

Don't forget that swimming catch-up is tomorrow (Thursday 25th Nov.).

Wild things rotations

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

This week instead of doing literacy rotations using all different books, we are working on activities from 'Where the Wild Things Are'.  The four rotations include:
  • Creating a filmstrip of the story
  • Creating a map of the places Max went in the story
  • Creating a mask of a wild thing
  • Creating a wild self using Build Your Wild Self

Planet Rhythm

Yesterday we attended the long awaited Planet Rhythm. We all got to have a turn playing drums to a beat, and then we got to play them as hard and fast as we could. Even the teachers got to have a turn! Everyone had a great time!

Wild things - finger puppets!!

Thursday, November 18, 2010

This afternoon the students enjoyed making their own finger puppets. Each student was given wild thing templates which they then needed to personalise using coloured paper and card, patty cake cases, oil pastels, feathers and stars.

The outcomes were fabulous and I wanted to share them immediately!  Miss Garrett and I both commented that the students had been wonderfully engaged throughout this activity, and even more pleasing was that no two finger puppets were the same!

The students are looking forward to acting out "Where the Wild Things Are" using their finger puppets.

Wild things!!

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

We began our "Wild Things" unit this week. The lessons have all been developed around the text: "Where the wild things are" by Maurice Sendak.

On Monday we wrote stories using one of the pictures as a prompt.  Look out for these on our individual pages. This was before we had read the story.

In the afternoon on Monday, we looked at the pictures from the story (using the Smartboard), and discussed what could be happening on each page.  We then recorded some predictions using talking points. These are now displayed in our classroom for you to listen to.

Welcome!

It is important that we welcome new (and old) friends into our classroom.

First we must welcome Jack who started with us today, and also to Mikayla who has returned to our class.

They have come at a great time as there are lots of fun things planned over the next 3 weeks.

Swimming - Week 8

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

As you know swimming was cancelled recently and this lesson needs to be made up. This will happen in Week 8 on Thursday 25th.

Therefore in Week 8, we will swim on Thursday and Friday at the usual time.

A busy time of year...

Thursday, November 11, 2010

Not much time for blogging lately!

For the last week, we have been madly testing and finalising all the things we know before report cards are written.  Once this week is over we can start the fun things again!

Over the next three weeks we will be doing a mini unit on 'Wild things'. Everyone is very excited because we get to make a clay 'creature' at the end of the unit.  The clay 'creature' is somewhat of a reward for the amount of work we have put in over the year.  Students have been warned that if they get a red slip between now and Week 9, they will miss out on making a 'creature'.

We are very close to filling our last rocket - hopefully we can do it before the end of term so we can have a rocket party!

Final note regarding the last day of term.  Break up day will be on Thursday 9th December.  The Friday is not compulsory as it is clean up day.

Let's have a great last few weeks!
